The Old Shadow Won’t Go Away

ONE DOCTOR VISIT THAT IS NEVER ROUTINE: Bring on the rubber hoses with the lights on the end, haul out the needles for the blood check, not to mention the Kentucky (KY-right?) Jelly and rubber gloves. It’s showtime.

I had my annual cancer check a few days ago. I had bladder cancer in 1996. Dr.Farris worked on me, and many people prayed for me. At the time, I was told that the kind of tumor I had would eventually be back. So far, it hasn’t. But I never forget it is there. Any time there’s an unexplanable ache or pain somewhere- especially in my nether regions, I also ask..is it back?

It must be because God has something else left for me to do before I die.

Whatever the reason, I am thankful. Living the past ten years has given me a chance to see two of my three children marry and start a family. I watched my wife transform into a new career and radically change her life. I’ve also been able to hold her hand when her life was threatened with illness. I have often said I have packed a lot of living into my life- quality living.
