From an old collection of photos: This is the WSB Skycopter- a Hughes 269-300C that was powered by a Lycoming piston engine. This was one of the toughest helicopters made. It trained thousands of U-S Army pilots at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and was once the front-line machine for police departments all over America. Now, turbine-engined aircraft have replaced all but a few of these venerable aircraft. The Hughes was not as smooth, cold in the winter, and hot in the summer, but it was built like a bulldozer.
